Rear brake disk for sale
« on: April 04, 2007, 01:31:03 PM »
Well, I have a rear brake disk for sale , used, off ebay. I think I paid around 50$ for it. I will recieve it sometime this week, I can then attest to it's condition. From the photos and such it looked to be in really good condition. (no grooves, nice and thick) I thought from the pictures that it looked like it was an EBC disk ( had the same cutout pattern as the one I just returned to bike bandit).

On a heavier note, the reason I no longer need it is thanks to a large moving truck, rush hour traffic on a major interstate, and escallating financial responsibilities.
I was pushed out of my lane on Interstate 5 by a moving truck and then met the rear passanger turn signal of a truck in my adjoining lane. Needless to say while strapped to the gurny the police officer on the scene informed me my bike would be towed. I got a ticket for following too close (or something to that effect) and now the impound lot wants 200$ to release the bike before I can even get a look at it. I know she will need a few hundred $$ worth of work, and currently I have no way to retrieve her or really work on her much less pay someone else to. I did have a glorious 12,000 miles on her, and rode her through some of the worst weather I have ever ridden in this winter. 5 years of riding and one accident that I can walk away from...I am thanking the powers that be for keeping other cars from running me over.

So I sadley struck a deal with impound that they get the keys title and bike and I only pay 100$ for the tow. This saves me almost 300$ thanks to an Oregon law requireing a 175$ release from the police department and an additional 30$ filing charge ( there is also currently 120$ worth of storage on the bike).

I am in fair condition, not banged up too bad. Kept all my bits and pieces, a limp and some serious stitches in my left hand. I was wearing my gear and made all the right choices not to get killed in 50mph rush hour traffic.

Hey ah...Richard...now there is one less butchered VX800 on the road, :). Don't worry though, the next bike I get will not only be flat black, but I am going to install a boat horn on the front of it!!Maybe some disco lights too!!!

Rise safe y'all

Update:
I also have the following:
Brand new speedo cable
Used but straight front axel
Radiator fan (works) and thermostat (both came off my old radiator which sprung a leak)
An almost complete gasket set ( I used the valve cover gaskets, everything else is there)
Also some miscelaneuos electrical bits I got as a bundle with a fuse box off of ebay
I also have a set of Givi cases and a broken wingrack system without turn signals. Three cases are all pretty big, one top case and two side cases.

Thanks

Ditto for me... glad you're ok... Living in the Busy San francisco Bay Area, (and listening to the daily traffic reports) rarely does a day go by when i don't hear about a motorcycle vs car/truck accident.
Listening carefully to the time they occured, and where they occured has led me to the realization that it's very dangerous to "commute" on a bike, epecially on the California 'Freeways'.
Not sure the reason ie: lane splitting or what; however the statistics are alarming.
Could be with our high gas prices , more and more are two-wheeling it, (maybe newbies) also the fact that many cage commuters are talking on their cells and/or reading some papers when they're driving!
Take care, Dave, again glad you escaped fairly unscaved.

Tumwater920 , I would rather see a flat black bike on the road than see the rider banged up, hope it all works out for you.

Hey Rick,
Brake disk is in great condition, it'll need a polish, but it feels really smooth and lays flat on my table on both sides.
Let me know where you are and how best we can make the transaction.

Thanks.
And if anyone in interested I do have the gasket set still, I won't aks much for it seeing I got it on eBay for something like 40$.

On a lighter note, I am feeling really good seeing it has only been 1.5 weeks since the fall.

Hi Rick,
I paid 52$ for it (delivered), I punched in 10lbs into USPS and they say it'll cost about 10$ to ship (4 days). I am in area code 97206 if you want to look into other shipping options.
We could use paypal if that works, or we can figure something else out.

Thanks,
David

Hey Rick, Can't seem to reply to your email address.
I think Paypal uses email addresses, olywa510@yahoo.com.
I probably will ship it out on Saturday.
Thanks,
Dave

Sorry to hear about your "oops." I wrote an article for an east coast magazine called Winding Road Times about a little incident of mine. I was in a hurry, bunched up in traffic, at a traffic light, next to a gas station. Well, someone up ahead hit the brakes, and by the time it got to me I grabbed a big handfull of brake to avoid the rear bumper of the car in front of me. I wasn't going very fast, 5 or so MPH, but the front wheel instantly locked on the slippery pavement. My only injusry was a bit of flesh missing from one finger caused by my wedding band. My HD had a bent bar, scratched muffler, and a dent in the gas tank from the bike falling on my foot. Even on Ebay the replacement tank (brand new though) wasn't cheap!

In any case, glad to hear you are not seriously injured. Even if you were riding too close, at least you can walk away. In time, the bike can be replaced, you can't.

Shiny Side Up!
Bill

Hey Bill,
Yeah, traffic is a bugger. Wish I could say I was riding too close. Just had a moment of  "don't grab it too hard and wheelie"...I have done that once on a friends bike (fancy sport bike, I hit the back brake and it locked up...paniced..and grabbed the front...tada..wheelie...into a ditch. Cosmetics totaled the bike for the insurance and my friend laughed himself to the bank...because the bike was fine. Thats what insuring a paint job is all about, scratch it up eneough and you get a free bike with a reconstructed title, he actually thanked me after it was all said and done) and it turned out fine, but it still was the first thought in my head. I think I made all good choices, except one. When I realized that I wasn't going to be able to stop in time (I was in the process of speeding up, just prior to seeing the brake lights, so the guy next to me didn't turn me into road chunder) I should have dipped to the left. On my right was a lane of traffic and on my left was a 2-3 foot shoulder with a 3.5 ft cement wall. Though it turned out OK, I could have been run over, right the **** over ...sorry for the **** ..but not one moment passes that I don't think about that. I should have taken the wall. At least the wall would have been 1 thing, not moving, and not powered by the folks I spend 99% of my time trying to avoid (I would say 100%...but recent history shows that isn't so:)...
Glad you got away light, here in the north west we have an easy equation:
Interstate 5+ Rush Hour+ Motorcycle+ Acident= Fatality...no joke.
I learned a lot that day, lessons I will never forget and will put into use when I can free myself from my 4 wheel cage again.
Thanks,
David
