Hi Smoon -

Finding used VX parts is tough.  I have seen a few gas tanks on Ebay in the last couple of months, but I am not sure how usable they all were.  A dealer had a new maroon tank for sale for $300 a few months ago in the SF Bay Area.

Want me to see if he still has it?

Rick,
That definitely scares me about the rarity of parts... I wonder if we should as a group start thinking of alternative bolt ons atleast in terms of controls, lighting, wheels, etc. I will leave that to the more mechanically inclined.

Oh and the answer is yes. Please see if the dealer still has the tank.
Thanks in advance.

Smoon -

Rob Heyden at Suzuki of Oakland, aka Schleicher Motors in Oakland, CA, is off work until next Tuesday with a hernia.  You can call him at 510-569-5520 and see if he still has the tank.  I talked to Bill at Schleicher Motors this morning, and he did not know if the tank was still available.

They also have a website at www.suzukiofoakland.com.  Scroll down and hit "Enter" to make it work for you.

Hope this helps.  Please keep us posted.  Good luck.

I am surpised at just how many spares there are around for the VX.

1. A lot of the parts are common to other Suzukis

2. There are a few companies that make aftermarket spares (ie exhaust systems) and also for other Suzukis .... see 1

3. Some of us have started to making a few of the smaller parts - see tinbasher's site for example

4. You have to order the spares for Europe where the VX was on sale until 1997, and by law all spares have to be available for a further 10 years. Contact here is michelle@robinsonsfoundry.co.uk where we also get 10% discount (covers the postage)

I have a used VX800 tank that I'd be willing to sell.  It is slightly dented and looks to me like it was repaired on the bottom (has some sort of sealant compound stuck to the bottom).  I got it when I bought my first VX800 as the previous owner had replaced it with a better one.

Contact me by email if you are interested.  It is most definitly repairable.  It has a few spots of rust inside - would have to be cleaned.
