Factory Luggage rack for sale on Ebay
« on: May 21, 2013, 09:31:57 PM »
Have the factory luggage rack off my VX for sale on ebay no reserve starts at $0.99 has a buy it now for $175.00.  Last one on ebay went for $178 so I don't think the BIN price is too far off.

He doesn't specify if he has the frame reinforcement parts that are required to use the backrest/rack.

I do not have any frame reinforcements with the rack.  The bike did not have any additional reinforcements on it.  The rack was just bolted up like the factory grab handle on my fathers 93.

It requires these, http://vx800forum.com/forum/index.php?topic=2923.msg20469#msg20469 or the frame will crack where it bolts up. Some owners have made their own reinforcement.

Well after looking at the bike it looks like I do have the reinforcements so I can remove them for the buyer.

Just because you're not paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you...

I have a rack/supports that I will be selling and will post it here 1st.
I just have too much going on right now to take the time to remove the re-inforcement hardware.

Good News:
I bought an engine today from a member on the VS800 website.
My VX developed a secondary gear noise early this season so I parked it, and have been riding a different V-Twin/shafty.
So when I dig into it this winter and find the outer drive to be bad, I'll change it, but if it proves to be internal, I'll swap out the motor ;D
I'll have the VX back on the road by spring

Dollars to donuts it's the inner bearing, that's the common failure of the secondary drive. For the life of me I don't understand why they constructed it to bolt up from the inside of the case instead of the outside.
A long time ago Hewlett/Packard used to make engineers build the prototypes and do repair procedures on equipment that they designed, it eliminated a lot of stupid stuff.

I've be on the VS forum for 4 years now and this failure has never been posted or talked about.
You know I'm not a big fan of the back torque limiter on the VX, and it's the only driveline difference between the VX and VS.
Well, except the VS has a Hydro clutch whereas the VX has a cable :-[.
Sorry for the drift,

Over the years several members of the VX800 email list and this forum have run across this problem. They hoped it was the secondary driven gear bearing, but so far it's only been the secondary drive gear bearing. Only two did the repair that I know of, there may be more, the others swapped motors, or have parted out their bike :-\   dvx800 on this forum just parted his out because of this bearing failure. It's a good thing it's not that common, certainly less than the rear cyl connecting rod failure :'( or worn out driven joints.
