WTB stock seat
« on: May 28, 2013, 07:44:41 AM »
Looking for a stock seat.  My bike has a travelcade and I find it horribly uncomfortable. I am in the USA as well. Let me know what you have.

As illogical as it may sound, also check UK ebay.  I have bought stuff and shipping was not too bad, as long as the vendor was not considering shipping a profit center;  $100 for an 18" wheel.  As it was about 5000 miles, thats about $0.02/mile - a bargain!

I bought a VX seat a couple weeks ago on US ebay, and it was $50 shipping from PA to AZ...

You need to be patient trying to find parts for this bike - as I have learned the last several weeks.  Not a lot were sold (apparantly), so the turnover is slow.

If you are going to keep the VX, be on the lookout for a parts bike...  I picked up one last week for $300...  Sorry, but the seat was an old Corbin that has sat in a field far too long. :(

Good luck.
Just because you're not paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you...

The Travelcade has much better resale value than the OEM seat, you should come out ahead on that deal.

But like the Corbin seat, it only works if it fits you...

Yeah my travelcade is not in the best shape.  I had to stitch one seam back together and the leather is cracked on the passenger section.  Don't think I can get too much for it.  I made an offer to the seller that is in the Netherlands for the only seat shown on U.S. ebay.  we will see what I get back.  Shipping is only 45 bucks from them.

One other option is to use the seat pan that you have and have it re-upholstered. There are quite a few companies that do this, like http://www.sargentcycle.com and http://diannasshop.com/  There are many more, the price may not be much more than trying to find another seat. Do a search on the net for your options. Shops that do custom auto upholstery have done nice seats too. The upside is you can have it done to fit you ergonomically for height, width, and how far back the seat rise is. You can even make it a totally flat seat.
You just might find that the stock is not too comfortable either. Stock seats are like off the rack clothes, you're lucky if the fit is good...
