'90 VX for sale - parts or project bike
« on: September 10, 2013, 01:44:00 AM »
In spite of carburetor rebuild and petcock replacement, I'm still plagued by fuel in the crankcase.  It's a yellow 1990 model with a Corbin seat with yellow piping.  It has Progressive rear shocks and a GIVI Wingrack that will accept three monokey cases.  Good wheels and brakes and practically new tires.  The stator, regulator and battery were replaced a year ago right before I stopped riding it.  The instruments are good and the coated fuel tank has no dents.  Mufflers are good. There is a fair amount of surface rust from previous owners' lack of care.
$500.    Location: Raleigh, North Carolina, USA

Dang.  Sorry for your frustration.  Seems a shame to almost give it away because of such a stoopid problem.  Maybe someone else has an idea?  How about just installing the independent fuel shutoff?  That should be a 100% effective solution.

I just paid $400 for a set of Hepco Becker bag mounts.  Not the bags.  Just the fricken mounts...  If you still want to sell her, you may be able to ease the finances by pulling the mounts off and putting them on the forum.

That said; I wish you were on this coast...
Just because you're not paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you...

Thanks, Pago.  I've ordered the shutoff valve, but for now, the VX remains for sale.

I've installed the fuel shutoff valve and returned the VX to running status.  No longer for sale.  Thanks for the tip.

Good news
I understand you frustration, and happy to hear your problem has been solved ;D.
I would encourage everyone to install a fuel shutoff, even if you have not experienced a problem, as the potential is
destroying the engine via hydrolock.
Less than a $20 mod is cheap insurance against engine destruction

I just need to remember to turn mine back on :-[

My yellow VX800 has been passed along to a new second-generation VX enthusiast in Ohio.  Enjoy your ride Dave.
