1990 VX800 Bobber/Motocross
« on: February 22, 2017, 12:53:51 PM »
First time mechanic, long time electronics.

So I'm attempting to make something of a bobber with a touch of off-road.

I just kind of picked out the parts I liked the look of and going to cut the back-end shorter and lower the seat. Raise the bars...anyway, I digress.

So I'm undressing this bike, right? Being careful, approaching it as I would a new laptop. Checking contact points carefully. Referencing explosion views or whatever when I need to. Things were going great actually. Everything so much simpler than I thought. Then I saw them...I can't imagine the shenanigans this bike has been through in 26 years but I've never heard of this...the topmost motor mounts...this is one for the archives...I'll post pictures later. They are too big to post from my phone.

Yep crappy cast Aluminium, best to TIG weld them but it will need the paint removed and a very good clean.

Roger that. Thanks for the advice. I figured that would be the direction.

Never seen that before, :o if you didn't notice anything amiss, there's likely others riding around like that. Hope it welds up ok.

They are made to shear when you have a head on smash.
